If you are seeing a sporting or musical event or visiting the downtown convention center, you’ll want to read my Crowne Plaza Portland Downtown hotel review. We were fortunate to see Bruce Springsteen perform at Moda Center and this downtown Portland hotel was our ticket to ride. In fact, we didn’t have to drive anywhere that evening. We were very grateful for The Crowne Plaza Portland’s downtown location. Within walking distance to Moda Center and Oregon Convention Center the Crowne Plaza offers an ideal hotel location in the Lloyd District.
What makes Crowne Plaza Portland Downtown special?
The Crowne Plaza Portland Downtown hotel wins my vote on location alone. We arrived after a snowstorm covered downtown Portland, Oregon with sheets of ice. When we were told at the reception area that our hotel room was ready for early check-in, were elated.
We had rented two hotel rooms using our points as The Crowne Plaza Portland-Downtown Convention Center is an IHG hotel. Not only were we able to book this downtown Portland hotel with points, our IHG membership entitled us to a room category upgrade at no additional cost. The hotel was completely booked with Bruce Springsteen fans. The front desk was not able to upgrade our king room, but our friends benefited from my IHG reservation. They got a hotel room upgrade, to a higher floor, at this 10-story property with beautiful Cascade mountain views.
What amenities are offered at Crowne Plaza Portland Downtown?
For the business convention center attendees, the hotel is conveniently located steps from the Oregon Convention Center. As such, the hotel has a business center on site. While not the oldest hotel in downtown Portland, the hotel was built in the 1960’s. The three-star hotel was renovated in 2021.
If you are traveling with children, they will probably enjoy the indoor swimming pool or the outdoor basketball court. The pool area has plenty of natural light streaming in from the outside and the hot tub is warm and bubbly.
What are the rooms like at this downtown Portland hotel?
The Crowne Plaza Portland Downtown has 241 hotel rooms. Rooms #517 and #824 are both suites. The city view rooms have eyes on the Moda Center and Oregon Convention Center, providing lovely views for guests booked on the higher floor city view rooms.
We stayed in a king room with a sofa bed. Our bathroom had a shower/tub combination. Small bottles of Basic Elements mini shampoo, conditioner and lotion were in the bathroom, along with a hair dryer. Additionally there was a mini refrigerator under the counter, across from the closet. Inside the closet was a Keurig coffee maker. Below was an in-room hotel safe. Additionally there was a luggage rack.
Food options at Crowne Plaza Portland and beyond
We did not dine at Boxwood Cafe restaurant during our stay. Instead, try the nearby Screen Door restaurant located on East Burnside. You’ll need to drive to this restaurant, but there are plenty of dining options here and in The Pearl District.
The Crowne Plaza Portland Downtown hotel offers complimentary pick up from Portland International Airport (PDX.) There is a nominal fee for shuttle drop off to PDX. If you don’t need a car while visiting Portland, don’t rent one. I’m sad to say that Portland, Oregon is experiencing a lot of car theft incidents and break ins. Our friends had their car stolen (from another parking venue) when they were at the Moda Center the week prior. The Crown Plaza Convention Center hotel does offer outdoor parking with security, for an additional fee. Please don’t leave anything in your car while staying anywhere in Portland, Oregon.
Room rates at The Crown Plaza Portland Downtown range from $130 – $300 based on demand. Our king room, #224, rented for $170 – $300 depending on events and time of year. The hotel is not pet-friendly unless you are traveling with a service animal. Check in time is 3:00 p.m. and check out time is noon. Hotel express check-in is available.
