Situated at the top of Napa Valley, the city of Calistoga is a warm and welcoming community, offering hot springs, dining, wine tasting and plenty of unique bed and breakfast inns. I stayed at the Cottage Grove Inn, a unique Calistoga Bed and Breakfast at the north end of Napa Valley wine country.
The three star Cottage Grove Inn features 16 adorable cottages, surrounded by lush gardens and ancient Siberian elm trees. Walking from your cottage to the main building will feel like you’re walking through a garden setting with bird feeders and fountains sprinkled throughout the property. You’d never know that this place used to be a motor home park back in the day. It has a wonderful location as there are so many things to see and do in Calistoga.
You’ll be able to walk to downtown Calistoga and the many restaurants. If you want to enjoy a picnic at a local winery, borrow the Inn’s bicycles and don’t forget to grab the portable picnic backpack that’s available in your room. The owners truly have thought of every detail, from in-room yoga mats (there’s a yoga studio across the street) to wine openers and glasses, even a blanket and a list of dog-friendly wineries for your picnic! Yes, the Cottage Grove Inn is pet-friendly.
Each room is uniquely decorated and features a king bed, plush down bedding, and a wood burning fireplace. The hardwood floors are made from a salvaged whiskey distillery. All rooms include air-conditioning, but it’s best to grab a bottle of Napa Valley wine and enjoy a glass on your front porch in the wicker rockers.
“My husband and I love staying at bed-and-breakfasts throughout California, and this one is our new favorite,” said Grace Lombardo of San Jose, California. “The accommodations and support staff were generous in every way. Our room was immaculately clean and fresh and welcomed us with an immediate warmth and coziness that pretty much set our desire for sitting in front of the fireplace for a significant part of our stay! Every accommodation listed on the website was accurate and better than expected. We will definitely return again.”
Romantic Calistoga getaway
One of my favorite features of Cottage Grove Inn was the Jacuzzi Tub for two. If this is a romantic getaway treat yourself to the spa package with bath bombs, soy candle and homemade soap from Napa Soap Company. The Innkeeper is really great about featuring local products and wines.
Cottage Grove Inn breakfast
In fact, Cottage Grove Inn uses the local Bella Bakery in their breakfast buffet. The complimentary breakfast includes hot items, eggs, waffles, breakfast sandwiches, grab and go yogurt with fresh fruit and granola and the famous Bella Bakery coffee cake and quiche. Of course there is a fancy espresso maker for your morning coffee or tea and fresh fruit juice. Enjoy breakfast on the patio or by the fireplace.
In the evening, from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. enjoy complimentary wine and cheese tasting in the main house. Local red and white wines are featured in addition to a charcuterie plate. The owners have long established relationships with many winemakers. They offer concierge service for your stay, including appointment only wine tasting, restaurant recommendations, hot air balloon packages and wine adventure packages.
