Often times in cities you’ll wake up to the sound of sirens and large trucks rumbling through the streets. That’s not the case at Villas Catalina in Portrero in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. You’ll be able to hear the sounds of roosters crowing and ocean waves lapping, but you may not be able to identify the sounds of the local howler monkeys. To my ear, it’s more of a pleasant groan than a howl; and it’s a hoot to wake up to! If you are looking for lodging in Portrero, Costa Rica, Villas Catalina vacation rental is an excellent choice.
Located on Costa Rica’s Gold Coast in the northwest end of the country, you’ll fly into Libera International Airport to get to Portrero in the Province of Guanacaste. This was our first time to Costa Rica and we landed in June, the rainy season. While guests will have some rain, our experience has been positive, as the rain is brief and leaves the earth a perpetual rainforest green color.

We booked Villas Catalina vacation rental #10 townhouse due to its location looking out to Flamingo Harbor and the Pacific Ocean and it’s proximity to so many beaches including Playa Portrero, Playa Conchal, Playa Danta, Playa Doral & Sugar Beach. There are so many things to see and do in Portrero and Tamarindo, Costa Rica that you’ll need at least a week here on the Gold Coast.

The privately-owned 3 bedroom, 3 1/2 bath luxury condominium is ideal for multi-generational family travel or several couples. Dual-level covered balconies offer ocean views from every bedroom. The luxury villa features vaulted ceilings with hardwood beams and a spacious open, reverse living layout with the gourmet kitchen, dining room and great room upstairs and bedrooms on the main level.

Chef’s kitchen includes stainless steel appliances, granite countertops & most everything you’ll need for in-home dining. You’ll need to bring your own coffee & filters, but with concierge service, you have the option to have your fridge & pantry stocked for an additional fee. If this is a special occasion, the owners will arrange the services of a local private chef (for an additional fee.) If they book the chef we’re thinking of, we dined on the beach at his restaurant in Playa Flamingo and the food was very good.

If you prefer swimming pools to sandy beaches, Villas Catalina vacation rental has a private infinity pool with large deck, bathroom and barbecue above the townhouse, offering sweeping views of the Horseshoe islands and the Pacific Ocean.
