Tetra Hotel Review in Silicon Valley

Located in Sunnyvale, California, considered the birthplace of Silicon Valley technology, Tetra Hotel is exactly like nothing else. This Silicon Valley-based Autograph Collection hotel is an independent hotel, hand-picked for its unique vision with distinct design features. The hotel strives to offer a work-life balance for its guests, while combining nature with technology. On our visit to Silicon Valley my Tetra Hotel review was combined with a kayaking trip; the ideal work-life balance was achieved. We arrived with our Airstream trailer in tow. More about that later.

Why select Tetra Hotel for business or pleasure?

Tetra Hotel is for the road-warrior to relax, the Silicon Valley visitor to explore, or the romance seeker to escape. The Sunnyvale, northern California location makes it convenient for mixing business with pleasure.

As one guest put it, “I have low expectations when it comes to Silicon Valley hotels. Tetra Hotel exceeded my expectations. I’ve already booked my next trip with Tetra.”

What makes an Autograph Collection hotel unique?

The Autograph Collection hotel features beautiful artwork, and fun games in the Nexus indoor/outdoor area prior to entering the hotel. The thoughtful in-room touches and amenities are also appreciated. After a day of kayaking, I loved using the Theragun mini personal massager – available in Tetra Hotel suites.

Our corner king room #304 offered daily housekeeping, dry cleaning services, room service and turndown service. If this is a special occasion or you enjoy discovering local taste makers, Tetra hotel guests may purchase local wines and Lula’s chocolates in the lobby or for in-room dining.

The Tetra Hotel offers luxury amenities from 300 thread count bedding to Bellino Fine Linen jersey knit hooded robes and custom jersey knit slippers. The MiN New York bathroom amenities (loved the travel-sized lotion) and Dyson Supersonic hair dryer were noted and appreciated.

Coffee addicts will enjoy the micro-powdered coffee from Coffee Manufactory and tea lovers will savor Harney and Sons tea offerings. As a tea drinker, I give extra points to hotels with first-rate tea selections.

Tetra Hotel dining

Dining is a pleasure at Tetra Hotel. Adrestia, the on-site restaurant, is open for dinner service, but is planning weekday breakfast and weekend brunch. The Silicon Valley hotel opened February 2022 and is still rolling out new experiences.

Chef Hideki Myo creates California cuisine with Asian flavors and Japanese ingredients. The Creekstone Angus Tomahawk bone-in ribeye steak looks delicious. However, we ordered the Caesar salad and Wagyu burger with French fries two nights in a row. The flowerless chocolate cake was also a winner!

If you are traveling with a group, or want to make new friends, dine at the community table, the focal point of the restaurant. The owners’ hand-selected this gorgeous slab of wood from their travels in Bali. Note the ceramic plates by Oakland, California-based Luv Haus, another nod to local makers.

Visit Coffee Manufactory, the hotel’s café and retail shop, serving premium coffee, tea and hot chocolate. Grab a Japanese Sando (sandwiches made with milk bread) for lunch.

Nokori, Tetra Hotels’ Japanese whisky bar, is a must for Japanese premium whiskies, Japanese beer and sake. I’m not a whisky connoisseur and even I appreciated the smooth taste of the perfectly-ratioed cocktail from the Suntory Highball Machine. Sample the pork belly Kakuni bao buns or crispy sesame shrimp.

Fitness at Tetra Hotel in Silicon Valley

Keeping up with your exercise program can be difficult while traveling for pleasure or business. I loved the outdoor, heated terrace pool. There are plenty of lounge chairs and towels provided. There’s also a patio area surrounded by olive trees. As is typical, no lifeguard is on duty.

Tetra SV features a state-of-the-art fitness center with Peloton bikes and group yoga and meditation.

Things to do in Silicon Valley

There are so many things to see and do in Silicon Valley. Levi Stadium, Shoreline Amphitheater, Stanford University and Silicon Valley tech giants such as Google are minutes away, as is Norman Mineta San Jose International Airport. For the nature seekers, the Shoreline bike and walking trail is nearby, as is the Shoreline Lake Boat House for kayak and paddleboard rentals. Yes, I was pleasantly surprised that I could carry out my kayak review so close to the hotel. Keep Tetra Hotel in mind the next time you plan to escape to Silicon Valley.
