As a traveler who has logged many miles on the road for work, I often look to friends and family for restaurant recommendations in an unfamiliar city or referrals from other travelers on things to see and do in different locations. The folks at Residence Inn are trying to create a sense of community and travel network with the introduction of their Thrival Guide via Facebook.
While I know where to eat cheap in San Francisco and Things to See and Do in Monterey, California, it was fun for me to take my husband on a date night in Pleasant Hill, California. We started with a movie at the local Century 16. We watched Taken2 with Liam Neeson because I enjoyed the first Taken movie and because it was filmed in Istanbul. FYI, I didn’t think Taken2 was nearly as good as the first Taken.
Our evening continued with dinner at the nearby Jack’s Restaurant & Bar in Pleasant Hill. This is the family’s second restaurant, with the first launching in San Bruno, California. Known for their Happy Hour, we missed it due to our movie time, but we were glad we had made dinner reservations on a Friday night. Gotta love OpenTable online. We walked right in, gave our name and were seated immediately. I felt like a VIP, but it was simply advance planning on my part. Bottom line, the food was good, as was the service. The joint was hopping!
Residence Inn Thrival Guide
The Thrival Guide sounds like a good idea in concept, but it is too new to rate. I clicked on San Francisco and was surprised that there was absolutely no content for dining recommendations. I’ll be anxious to see if this guide takes off.
