Hotel Gamla Stan Best Western Stockholm

If you are planning a trip to Sweden, most likely you’ll visit the capital city of Stockholm. Hotel Gamla Stan Best Western Stockholm is an ideal place to call home. The boutique Best Western Signature Collection hotel is centrally located in Skeppsbron, Stockholm.

What makes Hotel Gamla Stan Best Western in Stockholm unique?

The 3-story boutique hotel is composed of three historic buildings. Dating back to the 1600s, some rooms in the hotel include unique ceiling and wall paintings. We stayed in the newest of the three structures from the 1800s, while the middle building dates from the 1700s.

As is common with older hotels, renovations are necessary. Unfortunately, on our visit, Hotel Gamla Stan Best Western Stockholm was covered in scaffolding and plastic. We were informed that the hotel would be experiencing renovations. We did not realize that our king sea view room would be entirely obstructed by plastic. Fortunately, we spent little time in our hotel room, and made the best of the ideal location.

The Best Western Signature Collection hotel has a small, but welcoming lobby and reception area. A black and white marble tile checked pattern holds several small, circular white tables for gathering before or after a day of exploring.

Two white, cotton logo bathrobes are at the base of the bed. A small desk and blue chair are to the left of the bed. A crystal chandelier hangs from the while ceiling of the hotel room.

Steps from the hotel entrance, narrow alleys and cobblestone streets lead visitors into Old Town Gamla Stan. Best Western hotel guests are within walking distance to Kumgliga Slottet Royal Palace, the Noble Prize Museum, numerous restaurants and shops. Take Djurgarsten ferry or the Hop on Hop Off Bus to the Abba Museum, Nordiska Musset (Nordic Museum) the Viking Museum or the Vasa Museum.

For those arriving to Stockholm, Sweden via Arlanda Airport, Hotel Gamla Stan Best Western is easily accessible via Arlanda Express train or Flygbussarna bus. From Stockholm Central station, the walk is approximately 18 minutes to Hotel Gamla Stan BW.

What are the rooms like at Hotel Gamla Stan BW Signature Collection?

With 81 hotel rooms, there are options for single travelers, doubles, queen and king rooms. We stayed on the third floor in room #501, a king sea view. The 4-star, independently owned Best Western hotel featured 2 elevators.

The bathroom with walk-in shower and white marble tile at Hote Gamla Stan Best Western Stockholm. A single white sink and white toilet are before the shower.

All rooms include robe and slippers, tea kettle for freeze-dried coffee or tea, a desk with chair and flat screen tv. Our king room included a small, square table and two blue velvet chairs. The blue and gold ornate-patterned carpet and crystal chandelier were a nod to a different era.

While the bathroom would be considered small compared to Best Western hotels in the United States, it was clean and efficient. The walk-in shower offered plenty of hot water, on demand, and the waterfall shower delivered strong water pressure. Hotel Gamla also included hair dryers.

Breakfast buffet at Hotel Gamla Stan features hot and cold items, including scrambled eggs, bacon, swedish meatballs, quiche, plates of ham, turkey, brie and blue cheese, havarti cheese, hard boiled eggs and baskets of bread. A photo of Stockholm buildings hangs above the breakfast buffet silver warming trays.

Dining options at Hotel Gamla Stan BW

There is no restaurant onsite, but the breakfast that is included in the price of your hotel room is excellent. If you have not stayed at a Best Western in Europe before, you are in for a treat. The breakfast buffet at Hotel Gamla Stan BW puts our USA Best Western hotels to shame.

Served in a medieval cellar, yet light and bright, the breakfast buffet was a great start to our day. My husband feasted on scrambled eggs, quiche, bacon, sausage, Swedish meatballs, ham, 5 types of cheese, and smoked salmon. I started my day with fresh, multi-grain bread with creamy European butter and fruity strawberry jam, in addition to plain yogurt with strawberries and granola. Why do we not have this lovely bread in the United States?

Breakfast plate at Hotel Gamla Stan includes sausage, bacon, Swedish meatballs, sliced ham, Havarti cheese, scrambled eggs, brie cheese wedge, small slice quiche and piece of smoked salmon. Glass of water, cup of coffee and glass of orange juice are top of blue plate.

Keep fit in Stockholm, Sweden

If you are sight-seeing in Stockholm, you’ll most likely get your 10,000 steps in daily. If not, Hotel Gamla Stan Best Western Stockholm offers a gym in a vaulted basement. Needless to say, we did not visit the gym.

The hotel does not offer on-site parking. However, there is a parking garage 2 minutes from Hotel Gamla Stan Best Western. The hotel is not pet-friendly. Room service is not available. It should be noted that there is no air-conditioning in the hotel rooms. We did have a standing fan in our hotel room. The windows do open and that created a nice breeze during our June stay.

Rates fluctuate depending on time of year, ranging from 700 SEK – 3500 SEK. Our room rented for 2000 SEK. Always check the website for specials. During our stay, Best Western offered a gift card for a four-night hotel stay.

We appreciated that Hotel Gamla Stan offered a luggage drop for those arriving before their hotel room is ready.
