There’s no lack of choices when it comes to hotel rooms in the Napa Valley. However, we all have our personal favorites. For Doug and Laura Fairchild of Colorado, that personal favorite is a stay at Wine Country Inn, located in St. Helena. The Denver-based wine lovers have been coming to this Northern California hideaway for many years.

“We’ve been coming here for eight years,” said Doug Fairchild of Denver, Colorado. “We always come back here.” “It’s a good location and the hospitality and breakfast can’t be beat,” added Laura. “The breakfasts are awesome. We’ve stayed in a lot of places in the Napa Valley and we keep coming back here.”

“We always come back here. It’s a good location and the hospitality and breakfast can’t be beat,” added Laura. “The breakfasts are awesome. We’ve stayed in a lot of places in the Napa Valley and we keep coming back here.”

It had been about eight years since my last visit to Wine Country Inn and while some things remained the same, like those amazing vineyard views, the rooms have been completely renovated and televisions have made an appearance in the bedrooms. With neutral and comfortable rooms decorated in grayscale, the focus turns to the landscape and exteriors around us.

As the boutique hotel is literally surrounded in vineyards, the rooms create the framework to highlight the picture-postcard views. There are 20 guest rooms, 4 suites, and 5 cottages here. Guest amenities include flat screen tv’s and fiber optic internet, in addition to cotton robes and slippers, hair dryer, Oliva Farmacia bath products, in-room Keurig coffee maker & mini fridge with a split of wine included – Duckhorn Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc on our visit.

Lodging choices range from petite king guest rooms to deluxe vineyard view rooms, suites and garden or vineyard view cottages. Our vineyard view room with shower and balcony rented for $329 – $849 depending on day and season. The garden view cottage rate started at $529. All cottages have jetted tubs and three-headed walk-in showers. They also feature retractable awnings and a water feature on the patio.

The cottage would be perfect for parent’s of the bride if this were a wedding weekend and the bridal party wanted to use the living room as a gathering place. We stayed in a pet-friendly deluxe vineyard view room, #26 with a comfortable bed and a lovely patio. A majority of the rooms are dog-friendly with hardwood floors.

Pet Agree Program

The $100 one-time fee covers a pet bed, bowls, bag of treats, poop bags and a donation to the local “no-kill” animal shelter. Up to two dogs are allowed per room with a 50 pound weight limit. Paths are available around the property to walk the dog, but the best place to go for a walk is by the vineyard past the Chevron station – ask concierge where the path is to the river.

Insider Tip: Deluxe Vineyard View or Superior Vineyard View rooms all feature a balcony overlooking the vineyards below the property.  Cottages offer the most space to relax, with fireplaces, oversized tubs, and more privacy as they are stand alone rooms.
