Whether you are traveling on a family vacation to visit Turtle Bay Exploration Park or you are simply passing through town looking for a good night’s sleep, you’ll want to stay in the newest hotel to open in Redding, California. The Sheraton Redding Hotel at Sundial Bridge is a welcome addition to the community for concert-goers at the Civic Center and outdoor lovers throughout Northern California.

There are so many things to see and do in Redding and the Sacramento River offers a wealth of activities, steps from the Sheraton hotel. You may want to visit Lake Shasta Caverns, experience a guided fly fishing day trip on the Lower Sacramento River, check out the family-friendly Redding Rodeo or maybe you’re interested in exploring Burney Falls State Park.

If you are traveling with children or grandchildren, you won’t want to miss Turtle Bay Exploration Park. The hotel sits within the grounds of the 300 acre park and has a wooded path leading from the property direct to Turtle Bay. Whatever you’re looking for, Sheraton Redding offers many specialty hotel packages and is extremely pet-friendly.

There are numerous special touches for your stay including Turtle Tents in room for kids, s’more kits to enjoy by the fire pits, happy hour at Mosaic restaurant, as well as family-oriented games for kids & teens, and VIP experiences at Turtle Bay Park. I confess that I did not visit Turtle Bay this trip (we were traveling with our dog) but I have toured the park previously without kids. I really enjoyed the educational opportunities at Paul Bunyan’s Forest Camp and the animals are well cared for here.

One of the highlights of my visit was our Sheraton Signature bed – so comfortable – and the personal service from the staff. We were traveling with Nala and the doorman greeted her by name and offered her dog treats – quickest way to a Labrador Retriever’s heart (aka stomach.) Not only that, we had Starbucks coffee available in our room and Tazo Tea. I’m not a coffee drinker, but I love Tazo orange blossom tea. When turndown service came in, Christian left a hand-written note mentioning that she had given me extra tea bags, replaced our complimentary water and said to let her know if we needed anything else. I can’t tell you the last time I had a hand-written note left by a member of housekeeping…this was a first!

Dining at Mosaic Restaurant

We enjoyed breakfast and dinner at the pet-friendly Mosaic restaurant. Executive Chef James Vereb oversees the restaurant; you might like the chef’s table with a view of the kitchen. Sous Chef Tyler Hubbard was in the kitchen during both of our dinners. I enjoyed the honey-glazed Atlantic salmon with brussel chips the first night, but it was the pot e creme that put this chocolate-lover on notice. It was so good that I ordered it both nights – hello Weight Watchers. The following night I dined on prime New York strip steak, with roasted fingerling potatoes and fresh grilled asparagus, but it was my husband’s Wagyu burger, served “baller style” with organic sunny side egg and triple cream cheese, roasted onions, kale and housemade tomato jam on a pretzel bun with fries that had me licking my lips. This has got to be the best hamburger in Redding. The restaurant serves California wines and I’m told the House Hooch is available by the glass or flask. I prefer my calories in the form of dessert.

Breakfasts are healthy and filling – think housemade almond granola with Greek yogurt & fresh fruit – or decadent and delicious, like the Sunday brunch French toast or Huevos Rancheros. A la Carte breakfast prices range from $9 to $14.

Fitness options

The Sheraton offers a 1,200 square foot fitness center and there is a gated outdoor heated pool with Jacuzzi. The hotel offers plenty of open space communal areas and outdoor games for children and adults. My husband and son would have enjoyed a game of corn hole and the ping pong table is always a popular choice.

Insider Tip: Kids and adults will enjoy s’more kits by the fire pits. Little ones will appreciate the one on one VIP Behind the Scenes experience with Turtle Bay mascot Timber. Foodies and teens will appreciate pizza from the oven at Mosaic restaurant, but the real show-stopper is the Wagyu burger “baller-style.” I think it’s the best hamburger in Redding!
