Tucked in the forest, across the street from Ephraim Beach, Eagle Harbor Inn offers cozy Bed and Breakfast charm with an upscale resort feel. For those of you not familiar with Door County, Wisconsin, the inn is located on the thumb of the peninsula of the state that juts out into Lake Michigan and Green Bay is the body of water across from Eagle Harbor Inn.
This was my first time to Door County, Wisconsin and much to this California girl’s delight, I discovered historic Ephraim in the winter. As snow blanketed the tree limbs looking out from the living room, I turned on the gas fireplace and took in the natural beauty of this area.
The inn offers nine unique rooms – all named after historic women innkeepers – within the main building and six charming houses scattered about the five acre property for those traveling with family or several couples. The inn serves as the main gathering place for those staying in the Bed and Breakfast, as well as folks opting for the suites.

All guests check in at the main house, and for me, this was a memorable welcome. Snow was softly falling outside and the aroma of homemade coffee cake filled the historic house. The dining porch had cheese, crackers, fresh fruit and hot tea on the sideboard and Door County handmade crafts and scarves hung from a bookcase. Sadly, I couldn’t bring a homemade cherry pie with me in my carryon luggage, but I did manage to bring back some delicious house made granola that Eagle Harbor Inn serves daily for breakfast.

Back at the Sumac House, the two-way gas fireplace radiates heat from the downstairs bedroom, as well as the living room. Next to the queen bed is a six foot whirlpool bathtub with a picture window looking out to the forest. My big decision for the evening, should I make a cup of tea in the kitchen and enjoy the fireplace while reading a book by the fire. or get cozy in bed and drift off early? If you are traveling with children, or another couple, there is an additional bedroom upstairs with a full bath.

I’d love to come back to Door County in the summer, as the beach across the street is calling my name. As the inn is open year round, it’s great that there is an indoor swimming pool and sauna available on property.

Room rates range from $98 to $224 depending on the time of year, as well as room size. Check the website for prices and seasonal specials. Foodies will want to look into the cooking classes offered at the inn.
