Barcelona Airport Hotel Cheap and Easy

When it comes to airport hotels, I have several requirements. The hotel must be conveniently located to the airport, it must offer clean, safe and affordable rooms with complimentary WiFi and it must offer complimentary shuttle service to the airport. Other hotel guests might add inexpensive parking to the list of “must have” requirements, but I typically rely on public transportation to get around when I travel. Barcelona Airport Hotel met all of the above criteria for an overnight stay with a few extra touches.

We dropped our rental car at El Prat Airport and took the complimentary shuttle back to the hotel. The modern looking hotel was billed as a four star experience, but I take issue with that statement for one key item, a coffee maker is not included in the room unless it is superior level or above. I have never encountered this situation in any other four star hotel in my 10 years of reviewing hotels. I’m not a coffee drinker, so it didn’t matter much to me, but those who need their caffeine – I warned you.

Our room, #246 was a deluxe king room and rented for 80 Euro. Read my Insider Tip below to see how you may earn 10 Euro to spend at the bar or restaurant. Our first room, #249, included a combination bath/shower and dual sinks, but both faucets were leaking so we opted for a new room. Room #246 only offered a single sink and single shower, but for 80 Euro, we were happy with the room and the hotel accommodated our request for early check-in.

The deluxe room came with a chair, desk, television and built-in side tables by each bed. Individual reading lights were available within easy reach, but only one side of the bed had an electrical outlet; frustrating for the person not able to charge their smart phone. One small bottled water was included in the room, as well as a hair dryer in the bathroom. No robes in this four star hotel in our deluxe room, but there were slippers. Our room also included a safe.

Business men and women, as well as airline pilots and crew frequented the hotel.

We dined at Alabastro Bar for a late lunch, as the restaurant, La Sal Marina, would not open until 7:30 p.m. for dinner. Three entrees were offered on the price fix menu and included a beverage and dessert. We skipped the pricey breakfast buffet, 19.80 Euro, instead opting to purchase our food at the airport as we didn’t have the luxury of picking up reasonably priced food at the nearby shops.

Ours was a winter stay, so we didn’t make use of the outdoor pool (not heated during our visit) or the spacious gardens with walking trails. Had we stayed here in the summer we could have used the shuttle to take use downtown to the city center (Las Ramblas area) for an additional fee. Same goes for the Port of Barcelona Cruise terminals if you need a hotel before or after your sailing. Additionally, there is a small fitness center downstairs that offers work out machines.

Need to know:

There are 253 rooms at the hotel. All rooms are non-smoking. Rates start at 80 Euro per night, depending on the time of year and do not include breakfast. Breakfast was available for an additional fee of 19.80 Euro per person during my visit. Complimentary WiFi is available for all guests throughout the rooms, restaurants and common areas. There are two business computers downstairs; handy for printing boarding passes if you are old school like me.

The hotel is not pet-friendly.

Check in: 3:00 p.m.

Check out: 12:00 p.m.
