I may not be a tech-savvy millennial, but I understand the Aloft Hotel appeal. Millennials spend slightly less on travel than my baby-boomer generation, but I think we are in agreement that both age groups appreciate customized experiences, combined with digital convenience. I like free Wi-Fi as much as the 18 to 34-year-olds, and I’m happy to work poolside or bring my laptop computer to the bar when I’m working at a hotel. Aloft Hillsboro-Beaverton recently opened in the Northwest area of Oregon, offering modern rooms to the business and leisure travel in Greater Portland.
The brand new hotel offers 137 rooms, 11 miles outside of Portland. Located minutes from Nike, Intel and Columbia headquarters, the hotel is close to Willamette Valley wine country, as well. In fact, my husband and I used the Aloft hotel as our home base for exploring the Tualatin Valley.
To say that the property is pet-friendly is an under-statement. Our dog found the water dish and treat-filled dog bowl before we entered the hotel lobby. I’m happy to report that there is no fee for the ARF Pet Program. The complimentary service includes a dog bed, (that is actually large enough for a Labrador Retriever), dishes, treats, and waste bags. There’s a park across the street from the hotel to walk your dog, but I suggest you head for Henry Hagg Lake if you want to swim your dog, the Banks-Vernonia State Trail or visit the many dog-friendly wineries nearby.
We stayed in a pet-friendly king room for $237, per night. As always, rates change based on availability and time of year; your rates may vary. Our room included free internet, an ergonomic desk space, Bliss spa amenities (with built-in shampoo and conditioner dispensers in the shower) were provided, in addition to a mini bottle of body lotion. A king-sized plush platform bed had a small night stand on both sides of the bed with electrical outlets & individual reading light option. The room had a 55″ LCD TV and a mini fridge to the left of the bathroom sink. The closet area, directly behind the bathroom sink, offered free bottled water & coffee. We opted to forgo housekeeping & received a daily $5 “green credit” to use in the cafe.
Grab & go items are offered on the lobby level with a chef on site in the AM to prepare light meals & breakfast sandwiches. Breakfast hours are M-F 6am-10am, Sat-Sun 7am-11am.
The WXYZ bar includes seasonal drink specials, as well as signature cocktails from each of the bartenders. Plans are in the works for a Happy Hour. They also have a pool table and board games are available. Bar food menu options includes burgers, wings, salads, potato skins, flatbread pizza, and more. Indoor seating is available throughout the loft-style lobby. While a fire table with chairs is an outdoor option in the backyard area.
Traveling with children? Check out Camp Aloft for kids. This program includes an air mattress with themed bedding, (currently Thomas the Tank Engine and Paw Patrol on my visit). Aloft Hillsboro-Beaverton also offers live music from up and coming local artists called Live at Aloft. The Tualatin Valley hotel will be hosting live music shows 2-4 times per month in the lobby or on the balcony.
Recharge is a fairly large gym, complete with weight machines, multiple cardio machines, and free weights. In addition to this, Aloft has the indoor Splash pool for guests.

Insider Tips:
Order the fresh baked chocolate chip cookies with a glass of cold milk and head to the fire pit area or up to your room to relax before bed. For those of us who tend to mis-place our hotel keys, SPG offers keyless entry. Download the SPG app to check in, get your room number and even unlock your hotel room door.
