What started off as a lowly parking lot, DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel New York Times Square West has emerged to be the latest showstopper, steps from Broadway Theater District, the convention center and New York City dining and shopping. Opened January 2017, and taking center stage, the new rooms, all 612 of them, offer views of the Hudson River or the city. Soaring 37 stories above Manhattan on the southern edge of Times Square, the property features brand new construction.
My room, #2417, was a king bed with city view and rented for $149, you’ll want to check the website for current pricing and package deals. The modern rooms include “Sweet Dreams” signature beds, Theater District-inspired decor, a desk and adjustable chair. Blackout curtains are available for those of us who are light sleepers. All rooms include 40-in HDTV, cable, in-room coffee maker with The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf products, as well as Crabtree & Evelyn amenities. Guests have the option to upgrade to higher floors with better views for an additional charge.
While the rooms themselves are small, that’s nothing new in mid-town Manhattan and for the price, the DoubleTree by Hilton New York Times Square West is a great value for a weekend escape to New York City or those traveling with family. My main gripe with the hotel is the elevators – they need more for this size hotel. Hopefully, on my next visit, they’ll have the elevators weighted so that sensors will know when elevators are at full capacity and will proceed directly to the lobby.
Magnolia Restaurant serves breakfast, 7 a.m. – 11 a.m. lunch and dinner in American Bistro style with patio seating available in front of and behind the hotel. In addition to the full American Breakfast Buffet, the restaurant offers dining off the menu such as build your own omelet or chicken & waffles. For the night owls, Lovage Rooftop and Indoor Lounge offers great views and live music until 2 in the morning. I didn’t utilize the Made Market Pantry offering snacks, salads and drinks 24/7 onsite and, of course, there’s always room service from the “Eat Right” menu.
Need to know:
Rates start at $149.00 to $459.00 per night, plus tax. There is a daily charge for valet parking of $55 – sorry no self parking is offered. DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel New York Times Square West has both a fitness center and business center one flight down, below the lobby. The 100% non-smoking hotel does allow pets with a $50 deposit but they have to be under 25 lbs. Looking for complimentary Wi-Fi, you’ll need to be a Hilton Honors member to access that privilege, otherwise it’s $9.95 per day.

If easy check-in to your hotel room is important to you, you’ll want to download the digital key app on your smart phone before arrival. And if you are new to DoubleTree hotels, you’ll be happy to know that they offer guests a complimentary warm chocolate chip cookie upon check in. It might not be on par with the cookies at Levain Bakery, but you can’t beat the price and you won’t need a cookie cam to tell how long the line is before you even set foot in the door.
