While I go to NY about once a year, I always stay in New York City to enjoy the food, art, theater and sights. But this time I attended a family event in Nyack and our event party stayed at The Time Nyack. And while I never even saw NYC on this five-night trip, I did enjoy a lot of local sights and activities.
A Hotel with Style
The Time Nyack is a hotel you choose for style. Designed by Glen & Co and built in a redeveloped factory space, The Time Nyack brings a dose of urbanity to the northern suburbs of New York City. Whether you’re lounging by the pool with many other revelers or dancing to DJ music by the bar, you’ll feel a little piece of NYC from the quaint and charming town of Nyack without ever leaving the comfort of your hotel.
A big highlight of The Time Nyack is their Industrial Chic style. It’s the first thing you notice when you enter the lobby and it’s a visual delight to see how they carry-through the theme to your room with stylish lighting under the bed, zebra-stripe desk chairs and decorator wallpaper. I particularly enjoyed the art in the lobby – with a rock-and-roll, edgy style, it reminded me of Warhol. There’s a large Persian-style rug in the lobby discretely featuring sugar skulls and some of the rooms have the same rug. There’s also a long dining table in the lobby where you can enjoy the free buffet breakfast seated on swing-out industrial stools.
Nightlife and Poolside Fun
BV’s Grill is The Time Nyack’s bar and restaurant, and you can dine poolside since BV’s sits both inside and outside near the pool area. I dined at the hotel twice and the food was delicious. With a full bar and solid wine selection, it’s well worth a try.
The Time Nyack accommodates dogs. I loved watching the most adorable (and spoiled) dogs stroll through the lobby. There is even a stretch of grass in the rear so you can conveniently relieve your dog.
There are a few perks in the room like Bigelow bath amenities, a Keurig coffee machine and an umbrella so you can enjoy the 15-minute stroll to downtown Nyack without fear of being drenched by a surprise summer shower. Personally, I appreciated the room refrigerator that is actually cold enough to keep my leftovers fresh (why is this so rare?).
View of the Cemetery
There are two sides to the hotel and the side with the best views has a view of Oak Hill cemetery, just next door. Some of the folks in our party loved the view. I was on the second floor and it was a little tricky to see the view given there is an opaque film over the lower half of the window that I think is intended to block the view of the parking lot below.
For me the biggest drawback of The Time Nyack is the way sound travels through the walls and hallways. Even with earplugs I was awoken at 6 a.m. on the first morning by activities in the room above me. Given the way sound travels in the hotel, falling asleep can be tricky, too. As guests return each evening to one of 133 rooms, the sound of doors slamming shut on springs echos throughout the corridors and into the rooms.
Unfortunately, there’s also a recurring feeling at The Time Nyack that they may be understaffed. The helpful representative at the front desk processed my checkout and received my bags into day storage while taking reservations on two phone lines. Meanwhile, two other folks waited behind me in line. There wasn’t another helping hand in sight.
Customer Service
The housekeeping is a bit inconsistent. One day they completely removed my hand towels and washcloths and left me with just two bath towels. I went down to the front desk to ask for additional towels and while I was there asked for help lowering the temperature in my room (apparently, I had accidentally triggered the heat in the middle of summer). But when I returned to my room later that day the temperature had not been adjusted so I had to call again for help.
Meanwhile, downtown Nyack itself was a wonderful surprise for me. With charming antique shops and a variety of dining options, you can spend hours browsing around and imbibing. In particular, I adored visiting the Edward Hopper House on Broadway, as I’ve loved Edward Hopper for 30+ years. While it’s very small, it didn’t fail to delight. The house magically relays how Hopper must have developed his eye for capturing the way light falls on a house or in a room. Adding to the museum, as I walked the streets of Nyack it was like walking in a Hopper painting – a totally unique and rewarding experience for fans of one of America’s most famous and beloved artists.
Free Shuttle into Town
The hotel offers a free shuttle to take you downtown anytime you’d like and the driver kindly gave me his card so I could call him to pick me up once I was done browsing around downtown. However, it’s only a 15-minute walk down the hill from the hotel to downtown, so you may choose to walk.
Finally, the town of Nyack is on the Hudson River, so you can choose one of the many parks and walkways to take in the view of the Tappan Zee Bridge, the beautiful upscale homes perched on the banks of the river, as well as substantial lush greenery. You can also take a ten-minute drive to visit the nearby town of Sleepy Hollow or the very large Palisades Center mall.
After enjoying such an interesting and visually satisfying five days in Nyack, I will have to consider visiting more than just New York City on future trips to New York. There are treasures and surprises to be found beyond the edges of the City!

The Time Nyack has 133 rooms, 4 Balcony Suites, 3 Timeless Suites and 2 Junior Suites. Loft King rooms start at $149 and Suites state at $289 and range up to $500/night. There is a $9.99/night resort fee per night, per room. They have a AAA discount rate up to 25% off inclusive of continental breakfast plus an in-room bottle of wine. Dogs weighing 25 pounds or less are welcome. Pets may not be left unattended at any time. There is a non-refundable fee of $50.00 per night of stay and additional fees may apply. WiFi is complimentary and there is plenty of free parking.

Insider Tips:
Continental breakfast buffet is served in the lobby from 7:30 a.m. to10:00 a.m daily. It features bagels, cream cheese and coffee. The flat screen TV features over 100 channels including HBO.
Room service is available 7 days a week for breakfast, lunch and dinner and no minimum is required.
The complimentary shuttle service is offered within a 5-mile radius. It’s very useful going into town.
