Thinking about a Northern California wine country vacation? I found the perfect combination of luxury and convenience at Hyatt Regency Sonoma Wine Country in Santa Rosa, California. Conveniently located off Highway 101, the four-star hotel is ideal for exploring Sonoma County vineyards and farm trails or simply lounging by the outdoor swimming pool.

Sonoma wine country getaway

My husband and I decided to escape to Sonoma County for a romantic getaway. With so many things to see and do in Healdsburg and Santa Rosa, we packed our suitcase, grabbed the dog and hit the road. I confess that I wasn’t expecting to be blown away by a Hyatt Regency hotel, but I’d heard that the property had recently opened the Brasserie restaurant and I always like to know what’s new in California wine country cuisine.

Live art hotel rooms

The Hyatt Regency expanded its room count from 155 to 253 hotel rooms, but it’s the Live Art Suite and Sonoma Mountain Suite that captured my attention. The Sonoma Mountain Suite features Bradford Brenner’s paintings and offers a 20 foot balcony with city and mountain views of the Sonoma Mountains. The Live Art Suite features the artwork of local artist Carol Watanabe. Being a horse lover, I was drawn to her portrait of Lorenzo. Lorenzo, the multi-colored horse, also graces the label of Alquimista Cellars Chardonnay from the aptly named Lorenzo Vineyards in Sonoma County’s Russian River Valley.

Both hotel suites include complimentary valet parking, bottle of wine upon arrival, complimentary wi-fi, local bath amenity gifts, complimentary yoga classes at Yoga One Studio and private access to Spa at the Farmhouse by Francis & Alexander. A meet and greet with Mr. Brenner is available at his gallery located in Healdsburg and a complimentary wine tasting at Williamson Wines. (Rates start at $695.00) The Live Art Suite has two queen beds and a private outdoor patio and garden on the first floor. (Rates begin at $595.00) Check the website for current pricing.

Hotel restaurant

We enjoyed the open air feeling of dining at the Hyatt Regency restaurant. Guests may sit outside in the patio or watch the plates come off the line during dinner service. If you like a “booze-forward” craft cocktail, try the Manhattan aged in custom mini-oak barrels made specifically for the restaurant.

I’m a fan of charcuterie plates and deviled eggs, so we started our meal with meat and cheese, and an order of three spicy Petaluma Farms angry eggs. Another favorite was the panko breaded Dungeness crab bricks with white truffle, apple and celery root, served with a chipolte pepper aioli. Save room for the light and airy cheese cake or the chocolate torte. Chef Rene Jakushak does a nice job of utilizing the bounty of Sonoma county in his kitchen.

After dinner, take a glass of wine out to the fire pit and plan your morning activities. I love the fact that they offer complimentary yoga in the garden on Saturday mornings. Yappy Yoga Hour is held once a month from 5-7:30 pm. This gathering includes yoga with puppies from the local humane society, follow by barrel aged cocktails and wine.

For more things to do in wine country, the hotel offers comp tastings with exclusive wine partners, spa partnerships with top rated spas in Sonoma County, including Osmosis Day Spa and Spa at the Farmhouse by Francis and Alexander. I’m looking forward to returning to get a massage and try forest bathing in the redwood grove.
