Tieks ballet flats

Who doesn’t love getting a package in the mail? When I opened the pretty turquoise box, l I knew it held something special.  Off came the box top, flower and elastic strap; out slid Tieks ballet flats.

I’m not one to swoon over a blue Tiffany box, as jewelry isn’t my thing.  Typically I have the same attitude toward shoes. Shoes serve one purpose for me – to move comfortably from point A to point B. I’m not looking to make a fashion statement. Yet today was different. Today I became fascinated with pretty shoes.

Tiek shoes in a rainbow of colors

I was actually giddy with excitement when I scrolled through the vast variety of ballet flats on the Tieks website.  These foldable, luxury Italian leather ballet flats come in a rainbow of colors and sizes.  Did I mention they fit my wide foot?

Tieks shoe fetish

Their website, displaying fashionably cute models wearing glamorous Tieks, made me feel like I, too, could wear cute ballet flats.  In fact, beach volleyball three-time Olympic gold medalist Kerri Walsh was seen sporting a pair of Tieks in the Starstruck color.  This is the glittery gold color shoe style that I selected, as well. So you see, I share something in common with Tiek foot models and Kerri Walsh – we all share a shoe fetish of sorts.

Tiek tips

Tieks are made from 100% top-grain leather; the highest end leathers are custom-made in Italy. The upper of each pair of Tieks comes from a single piece of leather. The upper is designed to wrap around the foot to slim and elongate it. This goes for wide feet, too.
The non-skid rubber patches and cushioned instep make for comfortable footwear- and we know that comfortable feet are happy feet!

Starstruck Tieks ballet flats - a travel gear review

Tieks for travel
Whether on your feet, in your carry on or backpack, Tieks are designed for travel. The foldable split-sole design is compact and lightweight, making it easy to bring your Tieks along when you change out of river sandals or riding boots.

The brown leather outsole on each pair of Tieks is treated and coated to be flexible, and yet more durable and sturdy than regular full-grain leathers. Each pair of Tieks comes with its own compact pouch to compress your folded Tieks when they are in your purse, a reusable tote for your heels and pant clips for pinning up your heel-length pants. The back of the Tieks are cushioned rather than elasticized to ensure the shoes are never too tight on your heel.  The signature Tiek Blue stripe and Tiek Blue rubber patches are just plain fun.

I bought my wife these Tieks ballet flats. She liked it and wanted to use so soon. But, I told her to use the flats in our travel to China next week. I was lucky she took my advice.

Your wife is one lucky lady!

  3. Ginny Hair says:

Very nice and should look great as you tour Palm Springs!

  4. @Ginny
The Tieks were perfect to wear in glittery Palm Springs. I was looking very fashionable by the pool.

You know all those popular “slim” pants that you wear with boots? This is why they invented Tieks. When the boots hurt your feet, take them off and put on your Tieks, which are about the only flat shoe that I know of that looks good with slim leg pants.

  6. @Donna
I do love the Tieks. They dress up any outfit AND they are comfortable.

  7. Lydia W says:

Based on this review, I can assume that the Tieks are pretty, but how did they perform during your travels? Have you worn them for any extended period of time or while traveling? Can you provide an update on wear and tear? If you had spent $265+ would you consider them to be worth the expense? Thank you!

  8. @Lydia
I have had my Tieks since September of 2012. It is now almost 2014 and they are still going strong. I don’t wear my Tieks as everyday shoes. I travel with them and love them! They are still very comfortable and showing little sign of wear. I feel the ballet flats are worth the investment and appreciate that they take up such little space in my luggage.

  9. Sonia says:

How do you care for your Starstruck Tieks? Since they are foil covered leather, I’m not familiar with any protector for this type of leather material. I just ordered some and cannot wait for their to arrive.

  10. @Sonia
Should I be embarrassed to admit that I don’t do anything special with my Starstruck Tieks? I’ve had them since September 2012 and they are still in excellent shape. Enjoy!
