Icebreaker Merino Wool Sock – Travel Apparel Review
Alaska in the Winter
As I was planning my first winter trip to Alaska, I reached out to fellow travelers who lived and thrived in cold weather climates. Fairbanks, Alaska resident Nancy DeWitt recommended Steger Mukluk snow boots for their ability to keep my feet warm in below zero temperatures, will looking fashionable and being lightweight. Linda Nervick who lives in Minnesota and is the public relations representative for Steger Mukluks, recommended that I get a pair of Icebreaker Merino Wool socks to wear inside my Steger Arctic Mukluks.
Icebreaker Merino Wool – How It Works
The New Zealand company has based its success on merino fiber and has established a well earned reputation amongst the outdoor, adventure industry. They make an entire line of clothing based on the premise that if you layer Icebreaker products, the fibers lock together and feel as if they are one garment.
Icebreaker Merino Wool Socks
The sock that was recommended to me was the Merino Everyday Ultralite for $18.99. The Icebreaker Merino Everyday Ultralite is an over-the-calf woman’s sock and is guaranteed for comfort. I wore the Icebreaker socks in 20 degree below zero temperatures, along with the Steger Mukluks, while viewing the Aurora Borealis on a hilltop outside of Fairbanks, Alaska. My feet were warm and comfortable the entire evening. Too bad I can’t say that for some of the other Northern Lights viewers. They had retreated to the warming hut to sit by the portable heaters and warm their toes.
Fairbanks, Alaska to Lake Tahoe, California
Upon my return to California, my teenage daughter was off to Lake Tahoe for a snowboarding trip. She took a pair of the Icebreaker Merino Wool Socks to wear in her snowboarding boots. She was very happy with the socks and would also recommend them.
You may follow the Wellington, New Zealand-based company on Twitter or Facebook.
